in skye's world
Brooklyn Born singer/songwriter, Skye, became a muse to the art of musical melodies at the age of 12. As a youth, his appreciation for soulful relics of the past came from his musical family. "Pretty much everyone I grew up with on my mother's side of the family is musically gifted, and having Jazz legend Art Blakey as a godfather doesn't hurt!" Because of his upbringing, Skye's vocal style can be described as a melting pot rooted in R&B, soul, Jazz, and other genres.
Before beginning his music career in the background as a songwriter for artists,Skye started performing at the young age of five with his family under The New Voices of Freedom Choir. This blessed him with the opportunity to share stages with powerhouses like U2, Lenny Kravitz, and in 2002 as a background vocalist for the Legendary Godfather of Soul, James Brown and Late Night host Jimmy Fallon at the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards.
Skye's writing was recognized on Jazz vocalist Lynette Washington’s 2010 “Kaleidoscope” album, which garnered a Grammy nomination. He also is featured on Hip Hop legend Heavy D’s last album, “Love Opus” released in 2011. Working on music in these genres has given Skye the melodic leverage to craft his new music, with his first album “A Beautiful Decay” coming soon.
“I think music, Black music, has lost its ability to feel in the sea of microwave moments. My purpose is to bring melodies that inspire memories you can think about years from now and know that they were REAL. I’m walking in my truth in the light so that good music will no longer be lost in the dark.”
